Re: Canadian Association for Composite Structures and Materials (CACSMA)
I wish to inform you that a new Executive committee of CACSMA was elected at the General Annual meeting on March 31, 1999. The committee consists of the following:
Dr. S.V. Hoa, Concordia University, President
Mr. V. D’Arienzo, Bell Helicopter, Vice President
Dr. J. Denault, Industrial Material Institute, NRC, Treasurer
Dr. A. Johnston, Institute for Aerospace Research, NRC, Secretary.
The new Executive Committee would like to thank you for your support of CACSMA over the past several years. Drawing from the experience of operation of CACSMA over the past ten years, in order to have an effective operation, the Executive Committee would like to propose the following mode of operation. There will be two types of functions of CACSMA, regular functions and special functions.
Regular functions:
- Organization of a biennial Canadian International Conference on Composite Materials and Structures (CANCOM). The conference would include workshop or short course activities and a scientific conference. The workshop or short course would address the needs of molders and manufacturers of composite material parts. The scientific conference would deal with recent results from research and development of the scientific and industrial community. CANCOM can be held at different locations in Canada depending on the interest of the people that would like to host it. The organizing committee of CANCOM would be responsible for its financial aspects with negotiated arrangements with the Executive of CACSMA. The selection of the site of CANCOM would be subject to presentation from potential organizers and decision by CACSMA.
- CACSMA will sponsor Composites related activities of local chapters of other societies such as SAMPE, SPI, SPE etc.
- CACSMA will sponsor international conferences on Composites in other countries whenever applicable.
- CACSMA can be used as an umbrella organization representing the Canadian composites community in dealings with international bodies on topics related to Composites.
- CACSMA will maintain a web site to post information related to Composites on a periodic basis.
Special activities:
- Whenever there is sufficient interest from members to organize special events, such as workshops, seminars, etc., CACSMA can work with the members concerned in organizing the special events.
Membership in CACSMA will provide you with the following benefits:
- Special registration rates when you participate in events organized by CACSMA or events organized by international bodies that CACSMA sponsors.
- Eligibility in bidding for hosting the CANCOM conference.
- Participating into international missions or in welcoming delegates from other countries.
CACSMA is sponsoring the ICCM 13 to be held in China in 2001. The next CANCOM will also be held in Montreal in 2001. We call for your continued membership and also your participation. Please find attached a membership form. As a special incentive, joining CACSMA now will provide you with membership until August 30, 2001 for a one year fee. You can return it to:
